Is Twitter Journalism a Means of Information or Misinformation?

Swine flu creates controversy on Twitter

Twitter advances to become a major means of information or misinformation in a crisis?

The Recent outbreak of swine flu has people sick of twittering. Twitter the free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read other users' updates known as tweet has created a frenzy of epidemic proportions.

As instances of swine flu are reported by thousands of micro-bloggers, health experts believe that an unnecessary hype is being diffused to the people who receive these 140 character messages.

There are concerns that the spread of information via Twitter may lead people to unwise decisions. A Web 2.0 rumor mill that can misrepresent situation could be considered dangerous and people need to find reliable sources of information to back any tweet journalism.
